How to Identify Real vs Fake Gold Sellers in Africa (Uganda Focus)
Buying gold from Africa — especially Uganda — can be incredibly profitable. But the risk of scams remains high if you don’t know how to separate real gold sellers from fake ones. This article will help you spot the red flags, ask the right questions, and buy with full confidence from trusted partners like BuyCongoGold.com.
Why Gold Scams Happen in Africa
Gold is high-value, portable, and often transacted in cash or crypto — making it attractive for fraudsters. Uganda’s booming gold industry has drawn both genuine investors and deceptive individuals pretending to be exporters or mine owners.
Top Red Flags of Fake Gold Sellers
- No Export License: Always ask for a valid document from the Directorate of Geological Survey & Mines (DGSM).
- WhatsApp Only Communication: Real companies should have a website, email, and office presence.
- Unrealistic Prices: Fake dealers often offer gold far below market rates. If it sounds too good to be true, it is.
- Small Trial Offers: Be cautious of “test offers” under 500g. Most real dealers have a minimum starting point — like our 2kg minimum at BuyCongoGold.com.
- No Videos or Assay Reports: Reputable exporters provide clear videos, photos, and test documentation.
Checklist for Verifying a Real Gold Seller in Uganda
- ✅ Official export license
- ✅ Physical or registered office in Kampala
- ✅ Assay reports from certified labs
- ✅ Signed invoice and contract before payment
- ✅ Airway bill with export documents
