Rose Gold – Facts About This Fashionable Gold

Although rose gold is both trendy and fashionable nowadays, some people still do not know anything about this gold. Today, you will learn everything about this gold type. First and foremost, what is the composition of rose-gold? When gold is mined from the earth, its original color is intense yellow. However, all the other different colours of gold are a result of the fusion of gold with other metals. Therefore, rose-gold is made up of an alloy consisting of gold as the basic metal and copper as the secondary material. Sometimes, jewelers can choose to add a dash of silver in order to give jewelry a brighter look. The higher the concentration of copper in the alloy, the redder the rose-gold will be.

The History of this fine gold

For many years, rose-gold has often been referred to as red gold, or Russian gold. The reason for this coinage was as a result of its popularity in Russia earlier on in the 19th century. Today, the gold has found its way into almost all types of gold jewelry. In the past, wedding rings were typically presented in yellow gold. However, you can also buy them in white gold or rose gold nowadays. One thing that you should remember is whether you are allergic to copper or not. Although the shiny patina of rose-gold can be strikingly beautiful, you could suffer from itching, stomach problems, nausea, chills, red face, or tingling when you wear or touch rose-gold.

How to clean your rose gold jewelry

You can clean your rose gold in the same way you clean yellow or white gold jewellery. All you have to do is to dip the jewel in warm water with some liquid soap in it. However, special care should be taken when cleaning; in case the rose has been ornamented with delicate materials like opals or pearls. Allow the gold to soak for about 10 minutes then clean it with a soft toothbrush. After that, you only need to rinse the jewellery and you will be good to go. However, if the jewel is not totally made of rose-gold – like when it has a layer of silver – you should clean it more carefully in order to avoid corroding the plating.
